Meg Rose Smith
Canada boasts a long tradition of bringing to the world some of country music’s brightest stars. Among them are Anne Murray, Shania Twain, K.D. Lang, Terri Clark, Johnny Reid, and Carolyn Dawn Johnson. Following in that rich tradition is 18 year old, Meg Rose Smith from Montreal.
The youngest of six children, Megan is a true Quebecer. Following in the footsteps of her older brothers, at an early age she laced on her skates, taped her sticks and in true Canadian style, became an outstanding hockey player. As chance would have it, it was at a hockey tournament that Meg was asked to participate in an informal singing competition in the style of “Canadian Idol”, and the rest as they say, is history. Meg’s performance revealed a unique and mature voice with a sophistication that belied her young age. She soon began taking voice lessons from Kerry-Anne Kutz and legendary singer Nancy Martinez (“For Tonight” and “Move Out”). She picked up a guitar and began writing songs. Inspired by Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, and the host of country artists that preceded them, Megan has developed a unique style that blends contemporary/pop with traditional country. Her songs tell stories of everyday life, and speak to listeners both young and old. Her voice has developed into a beautiful and striking soprano, and is catching the ears of industry professionals everywhere.
Traveling to New York City to pursue her dream, Meg has recently completed her first studio recording, a stunning collection of songs produced by veteran producer Alan Zahn and recorded by Grammy winning engineer Nick Cipriano. The project features several of Meg’s original compositions along with songs composed by such award winning songwriters as John DeNicola (“I’ve Had the Time of My Life”, “Hungry Eyes”), Eugene Ruffolo, Grammy winner Rich Dickerson, and others. Some of the musicians who contributed their talents to the project include: Mark Muller (Shania Twain), Gabe Witcher (The Punch Brothers), Larry Saltzman (Paul Simon), and singer Tabitha Fair (Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Amy Grant). Surrounded by a loving and nurturing family, Megan continues to refine her considerable skills, performing regularly and readying herself for a career of doing what she loves most.
